Since 2013, the UK’s scaleup community has been growing, expanding by 27% in just eleven years to c34,000 scaleups, all contributing over £1.45 trillion to the economy. With the second most active and capital-intensive Venture Capital market in the world, and £22 billion of venture capital deployed in 2022, the UK is the perfect place for these businesses to grow through investment. Tyneside is part of this story – and in 2020 was the ninth fastest growing region for scaleup activity in the UK. This event seeks to shine a spotlight on this region and showcase the opportunity and potential in the North East.  

On October 9th, at the Port of Tyne, we are pleased to invite you to a partnered event between the London Stock Exchange, Port of Tyne and National Maritime Innovation Hub. Hear from the London Stock Exchange’s leadership, Sustainable Finance teams and research teams, investors and the UK’s innovation agency Innovate UK. Scaling businesses will also have an opportunity to showcase their business, get feedback from the London Stock Exchange and Port of Tyne leadership, and pitch directly to investors.

The event will commence at 12:00 on the 9th of October, followed by series of sessions, activities and showcases, including a networking lunch. The event will finish at 16:45. 

This event is part of a broader ScaleUp Britain initiative which the London Stock Exchange is working on with the ScaleUp Institute, to ensure the flow of capital reaches all areas of the country and connects to scaling businesses. Helping to drive awareness of support and offerings available to address scaleup challenges; connect investors and scaleups and facilitate further collaboration between investors, advisors, and the public and private sector in addressing scaling business’s needs.
